The Father Fable

Act One

The Feather

On a night with black and starry skies

Slept a man whose weight was way too high

And in his belly there loudly roamed

A hunger he would soon resent and loathe

Awakened was he by a fairy of dust

And gave him did she a blue potion

And the gluttonous man with a daring passion

Drank at once, in a fierce motion

He soon found that he was much lighter

In fact, as light as one single feather

And he could double jump off the air if he wanted

And keep rising whenever

His name was one of no real menace

For he taped wings to his back made from paper

And his large, gritty, and oily hands

Held the broom once used by his mother

And into the stars he kept jumping and jumping

Higher than ever before over the Earth

And he made his journey towards the brightest of twinkles

Soon to discover what he was worth

The light grew larger as he came closer

And soon he saw the angels from the ever after

That told him he was now completely free

Like the birds that explore the skies and seas

“You must voyage through the land and face your fears

And you must prove you can fulfill your destiny

Conquer all the challenges the king has placed for the people

And prove to the world your capabilities”

And into the white portal of mystery

He walked with the intent of writing history

But soon he was found dumbfounded and incapable

As he fell into a world of magic and fables

Act Two

The Leather

In a field of green grass and brown wood

The feather like man appeared

And soon he discovered by the laughter of the animals

That his clothes had somehow disappeared

Feared, did he not, with a broom to cover

As he looked down to see his body

And he found that he was now skinnier than ever

Happily cured of his malady

The animals had circled around the man

And presented to him a wrapped gift

He pulled the ribbon and flipped the lid

To find a leather vest and a silky quilt

He donned his brand new armour to cover

And soon turned his broom into a mighty spear

And the animals sat him by a small fire

And told him about the ghost of a sire

The sun rose again, shining bright and yellow

And he climbed a hill to see the long fields

There was a jungle far that looked quite mellow

He knew that’s where the ghost must recede

He ran through the forest and into the jungle

And he fell over some things and said some mumbles

From a small cove came a large and angry beast

Looking at a skinny man who could be his feast

The man was scared to fight the ghost

As he knew he was no match with his broom

And so he tried to run away

But the ghost was soon to show him his doom

All the animals saw that the man was losing

And they knew their hope was not everlasting

But the man forgot one important thing

And so he jumped off the ghost like a trampoline!

Happiness and cheer followed in the meadows

As the man slay the ghost by jumping

On its head and its body he kept on bouncing

And ended the life of something so menacing

But he forgot completely all his control

And he didn’t know how to come back down

And he kept rising higher and higher

And he saw the small village town

Behind it was a large and mighty stone castle

Where he knew he was to find the answer

It was the one thing he was destined to do

After he got this mighty power

The kite of a little child caught his leg

And he struggled to set himself free

And he was steered wide by the malevolent boy

And fell far away into the sea

Into the waters the man fell and drowned

But discovered something quite peculiar

He was still alive after fifteen minutes

As he could now breathe underwater

He swam around and was followed by the fishes

That were all astonished at this man’s wishes

And how they came true to give him a life

Where he could explore all of his wildest delusions

He streamlined through all the salt water

And found a small tunnel with a light

Inside it, he found air again

And he was soon absolved of all his fright

It led through to an underground chamber

Where only the darkest of horrors lingered

And into the very mouth of danger

He walked confidently holding his spear

Act Three

The Fear

The feather like man was soon in a prison

And he found himself trapped inside the catacombs

But he disregarded all he encountered

And found a sword lying next to somebody’s tomb

He fought the guards that halted his flow

And kept on going through the doors

There were some skeletons that fought that could not be killed

And so he had to drop them through the floors

Over some spikes and under some blades

He passed and stumbled upon a mirror

With a fierce jump he broke through the glass

And saw his shadow run away and pull a lever

“My god, was that another version of me?

Perhaps he shall be my greatest enemy”

But the shadow had run long and far

And the man had to chase this silly fantasy

The shadow came back and shut a gate

Allowing the feather like man to fall to his fate

But the man was indeed as light as a feather

And he descended gracefully to the floors that were hidden lower

A little mouse came by and spoke quickly with the man

And opened the door by pressing a lever

And prepared for the fight of a lifetime

The man was ready to meet his maker

He faced the shadow and ran into the beast

And soon the two became into one

He jumped through the higher chambers and escaped the prison

All he had to do now, was to run

He jumped on a ship that took him to a sand island

And in a cave he found a woeful bridge

One last mighty skeleton confronted

But it was soon led to fall into a ditch

His double jump ability ceased to exist

When his behind landed softly on a carpet

That lifted him off the ground and flew him through the ceiling

And threw him into the town’s market

Into a tavern he walked and wandered

Longing for ale from a bearded bartender

But his journey was not to be distracted

As he heard news about an amulet and a dagger

An accordion player handed him a map

Which told him where to find the mystical gem

He made his way into the town center

And propped up on a statue that was at the helm

The statue of the unicorn turned from stone to life

And he prepared himself for a challenging ride

He was taken to the clouds that were held quite high

Galloping away on a horse he could confide

Much like the carpet, the horse behaved

And threw this man putting him to shame

Through the open window of a castle so high

He fell back down into a canyon with no light

A small shimmering glitter caught his attention

And he pressed the button without hesitation

But alas! It was the button on a dagger

That soon changed his life forever

The dagger had soon spawned a bright glow

As he pulled it out from the hourglass

And the shell started to crack and the sand then spilled

And swallowed was he by a large cloud that passed

Act Four

The Weather

Back again loftily he awoke on a cloud

With his hands and face shivering at the cold weather

But he realised he was now somewhere he once was

And still somehow as light as a feather

He saw the unicorn again, mighty as can be

And realised that he was now in the past

Awoke did he, with the ability to rewind time

He knew that this magic surely could not last

The horse spoke of a mighty temple

Where his fantasies and fables could become real

And so he accepted the offer of the mule

And was soon kicked off at ‘The Temple of the Jewel’

Some strange people with eagles for faces appeared

They greeted the man and welcomed him nicely

But when he said he came to seek the amulet

They explained to him that he should leave kindly

He kept on going past all the people

Even though all they did was speak

He knew he must fulfill his destiny and dream

And not be someone frail and meek

The heads of the men were missing indeed

As their heads appeared floating all around

They screamed but did not frighten him at all

Instead he screamed at the snakes on the ground

At last he reached the realm of the temple

And saw a small blue flame of magic

He knew the shadow was within him

And so he jumped into it completely forgetting simple logic

The flame did not burn him as he had the shadow

But he turned around to see what was behind him

A thousand eagle men and heads and snakes

Had somehow left his mind and were forgotten

He knew he could not make it through all the danger

But they forgot one important thing about the man as light as a feather

He now had with him the shadow and the flame

And an amulet and a dagger that put them all to shame

Promptly and simply, he rewound time with the dagger

Till he was back at the entrance with the horse

And off and away he galloped into the clouds

Leaving those enemies with a pointless remorse

Back once again on the clouds as before

He knew he could rewind time all he wanted

But he soon was kicked off by the horse again

And he fell into the town, left confounded

Now he had all the tools he ever needed

And he could finally launch his assault

He walked over to that same castle

Knowing nothing and no one can bring him to a halt

Act Five

The Father

Faced with the test of countering the bravest of challenges

The man had to prove his wits and skill

His first test was to solve a labyrinth

Of mirrors in a library of that treacherous castle

He had conquered the books and all the papers

But like an idiot fell into a pool full of water

He climbed across the stalagmites and jumped through the ice

Knowing he mustn’t be a falter

He climbed up a rope and up through a well

That took him to the courtyard of the kingdom

But like a fool he slipped and soon he fell

And again, he used his dagger to rewind with a freedom

The biggest and grandest obstacle was yet to come

And he was soon to see it once he entered the main hall

The vizier that despised him so desperately led him

Into a trap that was another fall

He fell into a dark cave filled with cobwebs

And came upon a large and hairy spider

He realized he was stupid because he forgot one thing

And believed all along he was just a horseback rider

The double jump was his ally once again

And he bounced off the spider who was left shocked and scared

On a large chess board he landed and saw the same shadow

With whom he thought he had once paired

A cheeky smile and some small laughter

The shadow had stolen the man’s dagger

He could not rewind time without it

And so he chased the shadow like a mad hatter

But soon the two reconciled their differences

Once the man spoke of his true intentions

And the shadow felt sorry for the man in question

But the man threw his flame and burned the shadow to ashes

Finally, he could continue on his journey

And he rewound until he saw the vizier

This time he walked around the pit

Ready to fight that man with immense power

He took all the punches and all the kicks

But kept rewinding all the time

And he learned the vizier’s exact moves

At the cost of the beating of a lifetime

The vizier had used his staff to cast a spell

One he felt the man could not defend against

But he forgot one small thing about the man

That to defend himself, he had the amulet

And so he beat the vizier with the amulet

By hitting him with it on his bald head

And the vizier could not fight back at all

In a cowardly fashion, he soon fled

The man as light as a feather

Wearing a vest that was made of leather

Was soon joined by all the animals from the farm

And they all called him their immaculate shepherd

Before him, sat on a diamond throne

There was the king wearing a mighty crown that shone

“What is this interruption of yours, I ask

Don’t you see I am in the middle of a masque?”

“Forgive me king, but you may not recognize me now

I have evolved and grown from the man I once was

I am now the prince of this magical land

And I have the skills to lead the land prosperous”

“Who are you really?” asked the mighty king

Thinking that the man was just any ordinary farmer

“I have conquered all the challenges and proven my worth

And I have shown I can handle all the charter”

“I agree that I have been in search and pursuit

Of finding my heir - the most successful challenger

Who tramples over all the obstacles I have placed in this land

And proven that they shed blood of valor”

“I apologize, my king, as you are in preparation

But it was essential for me to halt your celebrations

As you see, it is very important for you to know

Who I am and what I have sown”

“It still escapes my mind and finds me mindboggled

As to why you would interrupt me in the middle of this laughter and huddle

Alright, you are the one that is the most prosperous entity

The kingdom shall be yours, once you tell me your identity”

“I understand that you were amidst something important

But it was essential for me to interrupt you at this hour

You see, I realized I had to come right now and say to you,

‘Happy Birthday, father’”
